Meet Johnny Bridge
“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.”
Meet Cinnamon & Oak team member Johnny Bridge from Vancouver, BC.
Just so we can all get to know a sliver of you really quick, share 5 things that make you, you:
If it’s in a forest, the ocean, on a beach, up a mountain, down a river, or out in the snow, you can count me IN. I wanna be outdoors.
I am all about food. It’s my work, the major in my studies, my greatest hobby and activity that holds my attention most.
As a born and raised Vancouverite of more than 30 years I’m in love with the city and the province we live in — the inhabitants, the climate the food, all of it.
Speaking of BC, I’m a little obsessed with British Colombia’s oysters — to me they’re just the perfect representation of how pristine this place was before settlers.
I’ve been known to have a lot of energy.
Why do you do Movember? Why is it important to you?
I do, in the loving memory of the men close to me who didn’t make it through their challenges with mental health and for those men who are still struggling.
What’s your morning routine like?
The theme of Lion King (Circle of Life) comes through the speaker pretty loud, long before dawn. My wife Kirsten scoffs at me in the dark…
Water/smoothie. Coffee. Earphones in (soundtracks for everything). On the bike for an amazing commute west... Into the kitchen (work).
Favourite podcast, book, documentary, etc?
I read a ton of cookbooks but if I don’t have my face in a cookbook and cup of coffee then maybe it’s:
Books: The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff, The Fabric of The Cosmos by Brian Greene, Surviving the Apocalypse by Joe Beef and The Curse of Lono-Hunter S. Thompson
Films: Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Tampopo, Fight Club, all things Star Wars…
Documentaries: Planet Earth (David Attenborough), Chef’s Table (volume 1 Francis Mallmann/ Volume 2 Alex Atala), One Strange Rock (Netflix), Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
A favourite quote or one you’re pondering right now?
I recently heard someone quote economist E.F. Schumacher and this really stuck with me:
“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.”
As I tend to work multiple jobs and keep a variety of projects on the go that one’s been running laps in my brain pushing me to be simpler and more efficient…
In the past year, what have you done to take care of your mental health?
