Meet Cinnamon & Oak team member Brett Larson from Ontario (usually).
Just so we can all get to know a sliver of you really quick, share 5 things that make you, you:
Having strong, deep relationships with friends and family are a big part of who I am. Don’t be surprised if you get a random phone call from me just to catch up.
I am a connector at heart, and enjoy seeing others succeed as a result of those connections.
If something involves a physical challenge, I’m usually a “Yes man.” From skiing to surfing to rock climbing to marathons to biking to scuba diving to hiking and everything in between.
My guilty pleasure is sports talk radio and I generally listen every day.
I’m entrepreneurial at heart having built a few side hustles and have goals of running my own business full time at some point in the near future.
Why do you do Movember? Why is it important to you?
I do Movember for my dad, granddad, papa, uncles, cousins, and friends and all those out there who have been or are currently fighting through some sh*t whether it is related to their mental or physical health. I do Movember to help bring people closer together and create positive outcomes.
What’s your morning routine like?
Wake up, stretch for 10 minutes, read a few of the many daily newsletters I receive, and try to get outside even if it’s just for a walk or a quick trip to the grocery store (grocery shopping around 7am is surprisingly calming) before opening up my work laptop.
Favourite podcast, book, documentary, etc?
Podcasts: The Peak Daily (daily news), The Consumer VC (interviews with founders of fast-moving consumer brands), The Bomb Hole (snowboarding podcast), and I Don’t Know About That (comedian Jim Jefferies podcast).
Books: Barbarian Days by William Finnegan, Onward by Howard Shultz, Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, High Hanging Fruit by Mark Rampolla and my sci-fi guilt pleasure Enders Game by Orson Scott Card.
A favourite quote or one you’re pondering right now?
“Have fun, do good.” - I’m not sure who it was from or where I read it but I like how blunt and simple the statement is.
In the past year, what have you done to take care of your mental health?
Opened up more with my partner, talked with a professional, set fun accountability challenges with friends, journaled (even if it’s just a few bullets a day).
If you want to connect with me…
Email me, ask me to have a coffee or pint, jump on the Beer List (my mailing list).
